Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. This program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
STARSkate Program Structure
- Skating Skills: Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior Silver, Gold
- Free Skating: Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior Silver, Gold
- Dance: Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior Silver, Gold, Diamond
- Interpretive: Introductory, Bronze, Silver, Gold
What Options do I have as a STARSkate Athlete?
Once a skater is in our STARSkate Program, there are several options. Skaters may choose to remain in the STARSkate Program, taking tests (although not mandatory) at organized test sessions and honing learned skills. Skaters may also choose to enter competitions,while still trying Skate Canada tests. Other skaters may feel that they have progressed to a point where they may wish to enter the CompetitiveSkate Program.

The Ice Palace is one of the top-producing skating clubs in Western Canada, as we are the home of provincial champions, national champions and international competitors. Our highly qualified team of professional coaches work together to ensure that each skater achieves personal excellence. They are aided by modern high performance tools, such as jump harnesses and Dartfish video technology.
The Ice Palace offers a unique all-in-one program that incorporates a variety of off-ice classes to complement on-ice training. Our specialized training “packages” include ballet, modern dance, fitness, off-ice jump, gymnastics, yoga, stroking, artistic development, and edge classes. These packages offer many scheduling options and substantial cost savings.
It’s more than just skating! Skaters enrolled in our figure skating programs learn a variety of life skills in their pursuit of personal excellence. We believe that the skills that lead to excellence on the ice are the same life skills that lead to excellence off the ice… goal setting, planning, focus, discipline, confidence, time management, and of course HARD WORK!!!
